Reciprocating engine parts
i.e. con rods, pistons, bearings & con rod bolts etc.
The pistons once dummy built
are weighed without rings or pins and balanced to the lightest one,
the pins are then balanced to the lightest one, then the piston
assemblies are check balanced complete with rings & clips.
The con rods are then disassembled and the bolts check balanced, the caps are then checked
& balanced and the rods reassembled.
The small ends are balanced
(end over end) and the rods are then balanced by correcting the beams at
the big end housing (this involves rechecking the small ends for any
pendulum effect as weight is removed from the big end housing).
The bearings are weighed and
an allowance for oil volume is made on all engines of a “V”
configuration or any motor that needs a counter balance factor
attaching in order to balance the crank or crank assembly.
Rotating parts i.e.
crankshaft, flywheel, clutch, all pulleys & attachments,
rotors & associated parts, bolts,
nuts & washers etc.
The crank is rotated at 1000
to 1500 R.P.M on a Schenk R2B belt drive balancing machine.
This means that only parts used in the
engine are actually balanced & no allowance has to be made for any
parts that couple to the balance machine.
All associated nuts and bolts
are check balanced to within 0.01 grams.
All rotating parts are
balanced to less than 0.5 grams.
Any washers are machined or
remanufactured to locate centrally at all times.
If any component is judged to
be too light to remove weight then weight will be added at the
appropriate place to achieve the correct balance.
All engines types catered for
from single cylinder to V12.
We must stress that all parts
must be in a clean & serviceable condition i.e. ready to assemble.
